There is another unrelated "Sonic Robo Blast" titled game out there that resembles the original 2D games; only a demo containing the first two acts is available, but it does look like a well-made demo.

Sonic Chrono Adventure is a bit of a departure from the normal Sonic game. The main Sonic games feature linear levels that the player goes through in a set order, fighting bosses every two or three levels.

Sonic Chrono Adventure is set up more like a Metroidvania-style game. This allows for exploration and often back-tracking when new abilities or items unlock new areas. Along with the new level design is a host of new additions to the Sonic games.

In this game, the characters Sonic, Gerem, and Rodalia are able to collect and equip items as they travel through time to save the day. In fact, there are many gamers who claim this could possibly be the best fangame of all time. This game takes place between the events of the first and second Sonic games for the Genesis — hence the title. Before the Sequel features eleven original zones with three acts each, new and fantastic music, and even some well-done cut-scenes that carry the story forward.

This game also has a storyline that re-imagines the meeting of Sonic and Tails and features Tails as a playable character. This is the companion game to Before the Sequel and takes place after the events of Sonic 2. Both games were developed by Felipe Daneluz A.
